Daniel Cassell plans a quick return after injury forces him out of BAMMA 16

Cassell had recently represented the UK at the IMMAF World Championships and managed to bring home a bronze medal for his efforts, although he admitted that the tournament structure had taken its toll.
Cassell said: “It's tougher than I ever imagined. I competed in three fights in three days my body was a wreck by the 3rd fight which was against a fresh opponent. Plus the fact I fought two days after landing out there, the time difference really knocked us about!”
However Cassell had Puskarkis in the back of his mind before the IMMAF.
He added: “There was talk to match us up to fight before the world championships and I also watched his impressive win over Lee Williams at BAMMA Fight Night in Liverpool. I genuinely think we are the top 2 amateur middleweights in the country right now.
I think Igor is very strong and will be tough to dominate like I normally do. However I think I am slightly more rounded as a fighter and I think that will win me the fight.”
But now a fight that Cassell and the UK MMA world were very much looking forward to has been cancelled, for now. Cassell told us about the injury and about his plans upon his return.
“I wanted to fight but I was recommended by a doctor not too! The injury I've sustained is a bad cut above my right eye. It happened during a grappling session and I got caught with an elbow by my team mate.
I'll be back in the gym as soon as my eye has healed.
I've got a fight booked in November and I've also asked if I could rebook this fight with Igor on the BAMMA show in December, when I'm injured it makes me more hungry and I can't wait to get back!”
BAMMA 17 takes place on December 6th at the Manchester Victoria Warehouse.
Despite Cassell’s absence, BAMMA 16 goes ahead September 13th at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester and we expect it to be sooner rather than later that we see him back in the cage.
