Bellator Announce 'British Invasion' Card Including Title Fights for Paul Daley and Liam McGeary
by Chris Houten - @chrishoutenMMAThe British are coming at Bellator 133, with 2 UK stars fighting for Bellator titles.
Bellator 133 will take place on February 27 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut and the night will feature a full “British Invasion” as Bellator Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima puts his title on the line against Paul Daley, while Emanuel Newton will defend his strap against rising Light-Heavyweight star Liam McGeary.
Nottingham's finest, Paul 'Semtex' Daley will get an immediate title shot upon his return to the Bellator cage, challenging champion Douglas Lima for the welterweight title. After enjoying a successful year where the feared striker has gone 5-0 in kickboxing, and 1-0 in MMA, Paul Daley will return to Bellator where he last fought in 2012 defeating Rudy Bears at Bellator 72, in his first stint with the promotion.
Following the win over Bears, Daley was released from the promotion, due to an altercation in a Nottingham nightclub which meant the fighter was no longer able to get a visa to enter the US. Returning to the European scene since, Daley went on a tear in promotions such as Cage Warriors, Bamma, and Cage Contenders putting together a 6-1 record, and well as a 5-0 kickboxing record.
Last October, Daley was granted a visa to fight in the US, and was subsequently resigned by newly hired Bellator CEO Scott Coker, who Daley previously worked with at Strikforce.
Undefeated in his professional career, Light-Heavyweight Liam McGeary fights for the 7th time in his Bellator career, having defeated all of his previous opponents inside the distance. A pro since 2010, McGreary began his career in Jersey before relocating to The States, where he now trains with Team Renzo Gracie.
McGreary's big break came when he defeated Kelly Anundson, Egidijus Valavicious, and Mike Mucitelli to win Bellator's 2014 Summer Series Light Heavyweight Tournament Final, which was enough to earn the 6'6" Brit a shot at defending Light-Heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton.
Also on the card, James Thompson who takes on former WWE turned MMA star Bobby Lashley in a rematch of their 2012 Super Fight League bout which Thompson won via unanimous decision. He is joined by Light-Heavyweight Linton Vassell who will be hoping to bounce back from his recent submission loss to Emanuel Newton at Bellator 130 against UFC and Pride vet Sokoudjou, a fighter who is currently on a two fight win streak in Bellator.
