This weekend promises to be a great one for fight fans, as the UFC, Bellator and WSOF all have events on with solid fight cards. It’s also a great weekend to see top British talent compete, with Jimmy Manuwa and Rob Sinclair in action as well as many others. Here are three fights you should be watching this weekend.
Rob Sinclair Vs Saad Awad
It’s been one long road to recovery for Manchester fighter Rob Sinclair, but now injury free C4 will step into cage for the first time since 2012 where he defeated Andre Winner. Before a series of injuries, Sinclair was on an impressive five fight win streak, and will be looking to shake off any ring rust and claim a sixth consecutive victory. This is easier said than done though as Sinclair will face the talented Saad Awad, the only man to defeat current Bellator lightweight champ Will Brooks.
Sinclair loves to stand and trade, and has impressive knockout power which he has showcased earning nine of his twelve victories by knockout. Although also a solid striker, I believe the advantage will go to Sinclair on the feet, so Awad may look to take the fight to the floor, where Sinclair has struggled against grapplers such as Paul Sass in the past. This will be an entertaining fight, and it will be great to see Sinclair back in the cage, doing what he does best.
Jimi Manuwa Vs Jan Blachowicz
Jimi Manuwa will be looking to bounce back from his defeat to Alexander Gustafsson, when he faces the tough kickboxer Jan Blachowicz in his home country. MMA in Poland is rapidly growing in popularity, with Blachowicz one of the leading fighters of the country. With Vicious kicks and a strong wrestling base, he provides a very tough test for Manuwa.
Although both fighters have underrated wrestling skills, I can see the entire fight staying on the feet and I expect to see a real war. Manuwa will be looking for an impressive performance to show he still belongs amongst top light-heavyweights, and Blachowitcz will look to impress him home fans in what promises to be the toughest fight of his career. Manuwa should have a speed advantage when it comes to striking exchanges, but he will have to be mindful of Blachowicz’s power and devastating body kicks. This has fight of the night written all over it.
Mirco Filipovic Vs Gabriel Gonzaga
It’s nearly been eight years since Gonzaga shocked the world with a brutal head kick knocking ‘Cro Cop’ out cold. Now the two veterans will meet again, with the Croatian looking for revenge. After winning three of his last four bouts outside the UFC, Cro Cop will return to the octagon for the first time since his knockout loss to Roy Nelson. Gonzaga who is also in his second stint with the UFC, will be looking to bounce back from his loss to Matt Mitrione. Although both fighters may now not be at their best, this still promises to be an exciting fight.
Both fighters are excellent strikers, and will both be looking to add another knockout to their impressive highlight reels. Cro Cop claims to be in the best shape of his life going into this fight, and will be looking to prove the first fight was a fluke and that he is the better fighter. This fight will stay standing and with the knockout power they both possess, it could be a case of whoever lands first wins. Both fighters will be looking to land their signature head kicks and the fight could end in the same devastating fashion as the first one did, I can’t see this fight going the distance.
