On Saturday night BJJ Black Belt Ben Saunders landed the first Omoplata submission victory in UFC history forcing his opponent Chris Heatherly to tap in the opening frame at UFC Fight Night 49. While Ben Saunders might have landed the first Omoplata in UFC history, his victory over Heatherly certainly wasn't the first Omoplata finish in MMA history with the like of Albert Crane, Gil Castillo, and Mac Danzig landing the rare submission on the local scene before hitting the big time.

While Ben Saunder is the first to do it on the biggest show of them all, below are 3 other famous Omoplata submissions that have landed in MMA.

Shane Del Rosario Submits Brandon Cash
Primarily know as a striker the late-great Shane Del Rosario caught Brandon Cash with an Omoplata in the co-main event at Strikeforce Challengers 4. Del Rosario landed the Omoplata at 2:57 of first round after being dropped by Cash. The victory took Del Rosario to 9-0 before moving over to the UFC after his next fight against Lolohea Mahe.

Caio Magalhães Submits Maurilio de Souza da Silva
Things when well for current UFC Middleweight in his MMA debut, really well in fact, submitting Maurilio de Souza da Silva in the third round at Shooto Brazil 13 via Omoplata. The victory would set Magalhães on his way to 4 more victories in a row to earn a place in the UFC's Middleweight division where he fell to Buddy Roberts in his Octagon debut. Since the lost to Roberts, Magalhães is currently ridding a 3 fight win streak in the UFC with wins over Karlos Vemola, Nick Ring, and Luke Zachrich.

Jason David Frank Submits Johnathon Mack
I know what you are thinking, 'who is Jason David Frank, and why is he in this list'. Well my friend, Jason David Frank is a karate hall of fame inductee, better know to you and me as the Green Ranger from the hits kids TV show, Power Rangers. In his MMA debut, Frank submitted Mack via Omoplata in the first round at Lonestar Beatdown: Houston, to show he is pretty good on the ground as well.
