Winner is adamant that the fight didn't happen due to financial reasons
by Chris Houten - @mrhoutsTop 5 ranked British lightweight, Andre Winner has taken to twitter to refute claims he is ducking Bamma's currently lightweight champion, rising French star Mansour Barnaoui.
Earlier in the week a BAMMA press release went out announcing Barnaoui would be fighting at BAMMA 16, September 13. The press release included a statement that the promotion had hope to make Barnaoui vs Winner for the lightweight title, but Winner turned down the fight with Barnaoui saying, "Andre Winner was one of the logical challengers for the BAMMA belt, but he has avoided and then refused this opportunity several times. Winner fears to fight a kid like me."
Winner has now hit back at the suggestion he is afraid to face Barnaoui, citing pay as his reason for turning down the fight:
Former UFC fighter Winner is currently enjoying one of the best spells of his career, riding a 4 fight win streak. He most recently competed in, and won an 8 man, 1 night, winner takes all tournament at AON 6 defeating Jordan Miller, Stephen Martin, and and Artem Lobov to take the £15,000 prize money. He is next scheduled to compete at AON 7 in the promotions welterweight tournament."@92_mansour has been fed lies,if bamma or any1 else wants to offer a decent deal then the: fight is on!u can fight for slave wages but im not."
"@92_mansour aint no1 bothered bout u,im enjoying my life ,i fought 6 times this year already while ur tryna stir some hype to get a fight."
