Scotland's Stevie Ray (15-5) is set to defend his Cage Warriors Lightweight Championship in a rubber match at CWFC 73 in Curt Warburton's (13-5) home of Newcastle.

It was Warburton who emerged victorious in the first fight, in March last year, taking it via unanimous decision. However, with much greater stakes, the vacant CWFC Lightweight belt, Ray took the rematch by split decision at CWFC 69: Super Saturday back in June.

This is Ray's second stint as Cage Warriors Lightweight champion, which he captured during CWFC’s four-man, one-night lightweight tournament at CWFC 60 in October 2013.

Despite dropping the belt to Ivan Buchinger at CWFC 63 in Dublin, the 24-year-old is one again representing the Cage Warriors banner in Scotland with the belt.

“I’m looking forward to defending my belt, particularly in Curt’s hometown. It’s not too far from home for me either, so you can expect an invasion of Scottish fans and a crazy atmosphere.”

After signing an exclusive contract with Cage Warriors Fight Championship last year, the UFC veteran Warburton made a successful debut for the promotion at CWFC 62 with of a first-round submission of Wesley Murch.

“The judges won’t save Stevie Ray this time. I’m going to put things right in Newcastle on November 1.”
