Andy Kerr def. Jacek Toczydlowski via TKO (Rd 1, 2.29) - For the Shock n Awe Welterweight Title
After a cracking night of fights, the event concluded with Jacek Toczydlowski competing against Andy Kerr for the Welterweight title. After missing weight by 2lbs Toczydlowski was unable to win the Shock n Awe 17 title even if he was victorious against Kerr.
The bout started with Toczydlowski getting the better of the standup. Kerr was able to pin Toczydlowski against the cage where the two traded foot stomps and knees. The bout paused momentarily after Kerr is hit below the belt by a stray knee from Toczydlowski. Afer a short break to allow Kerr to recover, the fight resumes with Kerr landing a kick to the body, which dropped Toczylowski. Sensing victory, Kerr moved in for the kill and, poured it on with ground and pound to finish Toczylowski in the first to take the Shock n Awe welterweight title.
Benny Carr def. Marc Dyle via Unanimous Decision
In the co-main event of the evening, Benny Carr and Marc Doyle took centre stage in a hotly anticipated Welterweight match up. Building from a tense stare-down at the weigh ins the day before, both fighters started out strong with Carr landing flush elbows and hooks to really make his mark in the opening frame.
It was clear to see, Doyle wanted to take the fight down to the ground, where he would have felt his best chance to win the fight was, having seen Carr struggle with his takedown defense in his last fight. To Carr's credit through, he was able to defend the take down well keeping the fight where he wanted it, and on the 2 occassions the fight did go to the ground, Carr was able to contain Doyle and force a stand up.
Carr peppered Doyle with shots for 2 grueling rounds, dropping his opponent in the second before moving on to the third where it was clear Doyle needed a finished. By the time the 3rd round came, Doyle looked like he had lost a lot of steam and even though he needed a finish there was little action to start the final frame. As the round drew to a close, Doyle was a bloody mess for the 15 minutes of punishment he had absorbed from Carr, by this time Carr was landing at will to see out the fight. He wins by unanimous decision to move to 4-1.
Salih Kulucan def. Jay Butler via Submission - Verbal (Rd 1, 2.51)
The only 135lb professional bout on the card saw Salih Kulucan take on Jay Butler next in a Bantamweight bout. After the opening two minutes, Kulucan really found his rhythm on the fight, catching Butler with a solid kick to the body which instantly hurts Butler. Butler tried to suck it up, but the pain was too much for Butler and he could not continue. Kulucan won via verbal submission in the 1st round.
Brad Conway def. Ryan White via DQ (Rd 1, 1.41)
A Light Heavyweight fight between Brad Conway and Ryan White ended in rather bizarre circumstances with White being disqualified for landing shots to the back of the head on Conway. White, who had not fought for over 3 years looked to dominate early and when the fight hit the ground, White duly took the back of Conway who seemed happy to give it up. White postured up and reigned down ground and pound which forced the ref to step in calling the fight off leaving the audience to believe White had won. Instead, Conway was announced as the victor as the shots landed by White were deemed to the back of the head by referee in charge and Conway was unable to continue. Although victorious, Conway left the cage to a chorus of boos from the fans in attendance but said he would happily offer White a rematch.
Chay Ingram def. Cleverson De Silva via Submission - Rear Naked Choke (Rd 2, 2.42)
Chay Ingram Vs Cleverson Da Silva was up next in a Welterweight showdown which many expected to play out like a game of chess between 2 experienced BJJ players and it lived up to expectations. Da Silva dominates the 1st round and looked mightily impressive thanks to a trip takedown which saw him maintain top position for the majority of the round.
Ingram came out in the second round landing a takedown of his own but Da Silva reverses and lands on top of Ingram. With very few strikes being thrown, Ingram attempted a triangle submission but Da Silva escaped easily. Back on the feet, Ingram goes for another takedown and get it. He ends up in full mount where he is able to takes the back of Da Silva. Ingram sinks in a slick Rear-Naked Choke and Da Silva tapped. Ingram win via RNC in the 2nd round.
Steve Aimable def Ollie Davidson via TKO (Rd 2, 2.56)
A Lightweight fight between Steve Aimable and Ollie Davidson kicked off the professional MMA bouts of the event, and this bout was definitely up there as a Fight of the Night contender. Davidson came out with an arsenal of spinning attacks to get the crowd on their feet. Davidson landed a few decent kicks early in the 1st round but Aimable kept his cool under pressure firing back with solid counter shots. The fight moved to the ground with Davidson giving up his back but time ran out before Aimable was able to make anything from it.
The second round begins with Aimable pressing the action against the fence. The fresher looking Aimable shoots in and lands a lovely takedown to take the visible tired Davidson to the ground. The fight returns to standing and Aimable really starts putting it on Davidson. At this point he is tagging Davidson from all angles and referee Rich Mitchell rightly stops the fight. Aimable wins via TKO in the 2nd round.
George Davies def. Mo Kargbo via Split Decision - K1 Rules
The only K1 fight on the card, saw George Davis take on Mo Kargbo in a bout which on paper should have a tense ferocious battle but in reality failed to live up to expectations.
The bout started slow with both men failing to connect much in the opening few minutes. Davis came out the more technical striker, catching the legs of Kargbo with solid leg kicks leaving the former British kickboxing noticeable damaged. Kargbo, was threatened with solid strike of his own, and on several occasions looked close to ending the fight. After 3 rounds, the bout went to the judges score card, with 2 of the 3 judges giving the nod to Davis.
