KOUNTERMOVE PREDICTIONS FOR OUR UFC FIGHT NIGHT 50 TOURNAMENT

Check out how to join our Kountermove “pick ‘em” tournament for UFC Fight Night 50

by Connor Hutton - @ConnorHutton94

Kingdom MMA again brings you its Kountermove tournament this weekend following a successful week of double header action, but for any newcomers who have a few questions, here is the essential information. Kountermove is simply a form of fantasy MMA, pick a team of fighters who you think will win and your chosen fighters are awarded points based on strikes, takedowns and rounds won etc.

You can join our Kountermove tournament for UFC Fight Night 50 with a chance to win $25 right here: http://www.kountermove.com/join/31877-kingdommmas-25-ufc-fight-night-50-freeroll-game-on-ufc-fight-night-50-souza-vs-mousasi-T-free/

If you want to win a bit of money but you need some guidance then take a look at Kingdom MMA’s predictions, our ‘favourite five’ below, a few fighters who you may fancy picking.

1. Ronaldo Souza ($5800) - Jacare (20-3) comes into this high stakes middleweight bout with Gegard Mousasi (35-4) as the oddsmakers’ overwhelming favourite, despite the fact that The Armenian Assassin already holds a win over the Brazilian after defeating him back in 2008 for the DREAM middleweight title. However, six years is a lifetime in the world of MMA and a lot has changed since.

The fight was originally slated for UFC 176, but the rematch goes ahead in the main event this friday in Ledyard, Connecticut. Jacare remains undefeated since losing his Strikeforce belt to Luke Rockhold, however Mousasi has already suffered a setback in UFC with a disappointing performance against Lyoto Machida. However the two remain top contenders in the division and the key to this fight will be Jacare’s power and black belt judo skill. This coupled with Souza’s ever improving striking provides a great opportunity for Kountermove players to pick up a lot of points.

2. Michael Chiesa ($4600) - TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa (11-1) looks to continue along the winning path when he faces long time UFC veteran Joe Lauzon (23-9). J-Lau is tied with the great Anderson Silva for the all-time leader in post-fight bonus awards (12). In fact, Lauzon’s latest win over Mac Danzig marked the first time that he had gone longer than one fight without picking up a bonus, so Chiesa can expect to face nothing less than one of the biggest challenges in his MMA career this friday.

Chiesa’s only stumbling block thus far in the UFC came against former Strikeforce contender Jorge Masvidal, but now a win over Lauzon could place him firmly in the rankings. With 26 submission victories between the pair, we can predict a lot of takedown points to be up for grabs, and we expect the younger, hungrier fighter in Chiesa to finish the night. Considering Chiesa’s cheap price we certainly urge you to place him in your team.

3. Matt Mitrione ($5100) - Long time UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione (7-3) is desperate to be back in the cage after his latest fight with Stefan Struve was cancelled just minutes before it was meant to take place. However he faces a tricky opponent in Derrick Lewis (11-2), who is undefeated thus far in the UFC with two first round KO victories to his name, most recently over Guto Inocente.

Despite the fact that Lewis is a former Legacy FC champion and currently rides a seven fight knockout streak, there is no doubt that Mitrione has mixed it with a much higher calibre of fighters, notably Chieck Kongo, Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub. We expect Meathead to come right after Lewis and pick our Kountermove players up a lot of points with a high volume of strikes, Mitrione will be hunting for the knockout and we would back him to do so.

4. Charles Oliveira ($5200) - 24 year-old Brazilian Charles Oliveira already has an impressive 23 fights under his belt, and an even more impressive record of 18-4, with 17 of those wins coming via stoppage. His opponent Nik Lentz (25-6-2-1NC) is looking to get back into the title picture after he recently tasted defeat to the hands of Chad Mendes.

The key to Oliveira’s success will be his high grade jiu-jitsu skills which have seen him pick up 11 submission wins. With two performance of the night victories for do Bronx already this year, we see nothing more than continued success for the young Brazilian, the fight will most likely be determined by Oliveira’s ground game and we see him picking up a handsome return of points for Kountermove players in the process.

5. John Moraga ($4300) - Kicking off UFC Fight Night 50’s main card is a flyweight battle between John Moraga (14-3) and Justin Scoggins (9-1). Despite Moraga’s experience with top contenders, such as the division’s king Demetrious Johnson, oddsmakers have Scoggins as the heavy favourite going into the fight.

For his cheap price we urge Kountermove players to pick the supposed underdog. Both men are coming off defeats, Moraga suffered a loss via doctor stoppage against John Dodson whilst Scoggins tasted defeat for the first time in his professional career against Dustin Ortiz. Despite Scoggins support of top fighters at American Top Team, we advise you to back the underdog for good value on your team, his experience at the top flight will be enough to grind out a victory.
