The American Psycho is coming to Bellator, and he's got Tito Ortiz in his sights
by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMAStephan Bonnar (15-8) becomes Bellator's latest acquisition, as the Light-Heavyweight agrees to terms on a new contract.
This signing comes after Bellator went on a huge roster clear out, releasing 13 fighters, which included former Light-Heavyweight champion Attila Végh (29-5-2).
Bonnar is considered a big-name signing, something that Scott Coker has been looking for since his inception as Bellator President.
“Stephan is a guy that has been a huge part of this sport and we are excited have him part of the roster.
He was one half of probably the greatest and one of the most important fights in MMA history, and it happened on Spike.
When you look at our Light Heavyweight division, with names like Rampage, Tito, King Mo, Emanuel Newton and others, there are a lot of fights Stephan can be involved in. Big fights against big names. After talking to Stephan, I know that’s what he wants, and we want to provide that to our fans.”
Alongside fighting Bonnar will also be involved in various components relating to Bellator, including the possibility of an analytical pundit.
Bonnar made a name for himself during the UFC's first The Ultimate Ffighter series, in the finale fight against Forrest Griffin which is largely considered one of the greatest brawls ever.
His last fight came in 2012 against Anderson Silva, however ring-rust aside, he already has a target on the head of his preferred opponent.
"I want everyone to know I'm coming out of retirement because it's time to free the MMA world of the virus that's known as Tito Ortiz.
We've been suffering through his boring fights for too many years, and it's about time that someone beats it out of him once and for all."
Bonnar is expected to make his in-cage debut before the end of the year.
